Congratulations!
I'm so excited to capture your new arrival! There are a few things I ask that you do to prepare for your newborn photo shoot. Doing things will help your baby sleep through their session, and get you all those squishy, posed newborn shots.
Keep Baby Awake
This won't be easy, but try to keep your little one awake for the two hours before the session. I recommend giving them a bath, letting them kick their arms and legs and doing some tummy time. I understand that baby likely won't stay awake during the car ride and that is ok! Once you get here, we will get baby down to just a diaper and have you feed them before we start.
Have a Pacifier
The only thing I ask that you have on hand for me is a pacifier. I know some families chose to not use one for their baby, but I promise that using one for the few hours I will be there will not throw off your breastfeeding journey! I will use the pacifier after we switch their pose as it helps them calm down and get back to sleep if they awoke during the position change.
Sit Back and Relax
Once we are all set, you are free to relax and let me capture your perfect little baby! You may be nervous at the beginning of the session that your little one is not settling down to sleep. But please do not worry! I utilize a method that will allow your baby to fall asleep more naturally so they will sleep more deeply. It may take some time (even up to an hour!) so plan to be here for a while as we let your little one decide when they are ready to sleep.
I do ask that one parent be with me the entire time. We will do parent/family shots at the end (if you would like them), but other than that I only need one parent (or other trusted adult) with me.
And that's it! If you follow these simple directions, our session will go much more smoothly. If you have any special props you would like incorporated into any photos, please let me know beforehand so I can plan accordingly. Otherwise, I will bring all of the outfits, backdrops and props that we will need. I look forward to meeting you and your new arrival!
